Mark Tuan’s androgynous looks would leave you wondering for minutes where to place him in the gender spectrum. With the evolvement of the LGBTQ movement and the gender standards that have sprung over the years, it’s so easy to call him transgender. But No. He. Is. Not. Mark Tuan is an American singer, rapper, and dancer, who sings in the South Korean all-boys band Got7.

His fledgling career has seen him release several EPs with the band and even appeared in the web drama series, Dream Knight. Tuan’s plausible skills and talent has not only won him hearts but also several awards and recognition. This shows in his huge following on social media. Let’s take a stroll down Tuan street as we tell you about his parents and siblings.

Who is Mark Tuan of GOT7?

Mark Tuan was born—Mark Yi-Eun Tuan—in Los Angeles, California, US, on September 4, 1993.

Although now famous for his music, Mark Tuan never identified as a musician back in the days. Like most talented folks, he was only encouraged to learn music and to participate in music competitions. While that may mean learning from scratch, it only helped Tuan find his love for music and to hone his already dormant gift. Although grudgingly, Tuan agreed to audition for a South Korean talent agency JYP Entertainment, and that would be his first step to stardom.

His rendition of Eminem’s When I’m Gone left the judges so dazed, they had him included in the company’s roster. Tuan then took things a notch higher when he travelled east to South Korea to start formal training in music. More so, he learned the Korean language, which later enabled him to reach out to millions of his Korean fans. In 2014, Mark joined the boy band, GOT 7 as its main rapper and visual dancer. The exposure gained from GOT7 helped Mark launch his debut single, Girls Girls Girls, in January of 2014. The track later premiered on Mnet’s music program, M! Countdown.

At GOT7, Mark Tuan worked on the release of several of the band’s EPs and studio albums including Got it?, Got Love, Identify, Just Right, Moriagatteyo, and Flight Log: Departure. He was featured in the web drama Dream Knight, alongside other band members. Mark Tuan’s plausible musical stint has put him on the receiving end of several awards and recognitions.

Starting out in 2014, he received the SBS MTV Award for the Best of the Best New Artist. In 2015, he received two Golden Disk awards: for Best New Artist and the China Goodwill Star. That same year, he bagged the SBS Chinese Netizen Popularity Award, the Seoul Music Rookie Award, the SEED Popular Asian Artist of the Year Award, and the YinYue V-Chart Best Korean Newcomer Award.

Where are His Parents From and Who are His Siblings?

Mark was born to parents, Raymond and Dorine Tuan. Originally from Taiwan, his parents have encouraged Tuan’s musical career in no small way. His father identifies as an “Instagrammer” and is quite popular with Tuan’s sea of fans.

As the first son of the family, Mark was raised alongside his two sisters, Tammy and Grace, and a younger brother, Joey. Family members affectionately dubbed him “Little Rooster.” This isn’t farfetched, as his birth date falls on the same birth year the Chinese calendar recognizes as the rooster year. Theirs is a close-knit family which not only helped hone Mark’s Career but also gave a good deal of exposure. He’s well-traveled and spent some of his childhood years in Brazil and Paraguay. He speaks Korean, English, and Mandarin quite fluently. However, as a traditional Taiwanese family, that meant strict rules and values shaped the most part of his childhood. Although born left-handed, the taboos surrounding left-handedness made his parents re-script him into a righthander. He was also trained in martial arts and engaged in sports activities such as skateboarding, snowboarding, volleyball, basketball, and swimming.

As of 2019, sources put Mark Tuan’s net worth at about $2 million.
