A Complete List of Accredited State Universities In Nigeria

One of the many reasons why state Universities are created is to meet the growing demand for higher education. Established in the 1980s following oil boom years, state universities are among the highest number of universities in Nigeria. According to the National Universities Commission, there are a total of 170 universities in Nigeria with 48 state universities.

State universities are fully funded by their respective state governments, with occasional assistance from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund(TETFund). Those in oil-producing states also receive assistance from the Niger Delta Development Company (NDDC). Other areas funds are being raised are through school fees and some internally generated revenue from entrepreneurial activities. The funds generated were used for the growth and development of the institution.

Now, every state university is created to satisfy a growing demand in the state. That is why we have ones that are mainly science-based while some others take on all courses accredited by the NUC. Let’s take a look at all accredited state Universities in Nigeria and what makes them unique.
