How To Check MTN Number In Nigeria and Customer Care Numbers To Call For Help

Between the number of phone lines the average Nigerian has and plain old forgetfulness, it can be hard keeping track of every phone number you own. That is why MTN, along with every other telecom network in Nigeria, has a way for customers to check their number without necessarily calling customer care.

The network has provided inbuilt methods that tell you your number and reveal relevant information about your account history. Here are at least four ways you can check your MTN number in Nigeria.

Four Ways to Check Your MTN Number in Nigeria

Checking your MTN Nigeria number is a relatively simple process accomplishable in a matter of minutes. There are four common ways any MTN user can juggle their memory, and we will start with the one that provides the most comprehensive answer.

Use the myMTN App

Sometimes, you are not just checking your MTN Nigeria number to remember the eleven elusive digits. Sometimes, you want to learn more about your line, such as when you bought it and the people you called recently. To discover all of this and more, simply use the myMTN App.

It is available 24/7, and you can access it by downloading it from the Play or iOS store. You can also get a link sent to you via SMS by texting Care to 5018. Once you receive the link, click it, download, and install the app.

Once you have, follow the steps to check your MTN number and other information

  • Launch the app and follow the prompt
  • Once you are done, you should see your number at the top of the app on the home tab

For other details about your number:

  • Click the hamburger button (top left)
  • Select ‘My Profile’
  • An OTP number will be sent to you. Enter it
  • Once done, you will see a page revealing details such as your account activation date, PUK number, and registered email address.

Use a USSD Shortcode (*123#)

If the app seems cumbersome, you can also use the simple, no smartphone required method of dialling a USSD shortcode. To check your MTN Nigeria number via USSD shortcode,

  • simply dial *123#. It will take you to a menu that includes account info, XtraTime, Data Services and more.
  • Enter 1 for Account Info
  • You will get another list of options. Enter 1 again for My Number.
  • Your number will be displayed onscreen

If you would rather skip the steps, simply dial *123*1*1#. Alternatively, you can also dial *663#. Both shortcodes will produce the same result.

Call a Friend

One other way you can check your MTN number in Nigeria is to call a friend. If for some reason, the codes do not work for you and the app is too much commitment, or you trust your friend more, they can help you solve the mystery. All you have to do is call.

Once you have your friend’s phone number, simply dial their number, and your number will show on their phone. They can then send you eleven digits in your preferred method.

Reach Out to Customer Care

Finally, one other effective way to check your MTN Nigeria number is to call the telecom’s customer care. Aside from the fact it is similar in execution to calling a friend, they also have software that reveals details about your phone number. That way, you can learn more about your account and its history.

This method is available 24/7, and it will cost you precisely zero charges as long as you are calling from an MTN line. There are a couple of ways to reach out to the MTN Nigeria customer care line.

Maybe you want to check your MTN Nigeria number. Perhaps there are other issues with your line you want to address. Whatever it might be, the telecom company has a reliable 24/7 team of customer care representatives ready to take your call whenever you place it. Currently, the company has four dedicated numbers serving the same purpose, albeit in different ways.

Native MTN Users – 180

If you are an MTN user, you can reach out to the Nigerian telecom customer care by dialling 180. It is a one-stop-shop for any complaints you might have or interest in any of the network’s services. It also offers several benefits which are accessible by pressing the corresponding button as dictated by the voice prompt, available in different Nigerian languages.

Most importantly, however, you can speak to a real-life customer service agent. Personal experience and unscientific surveys suggest you would only have to wait a few minutes before connecting to an agent if you need any help. The best part? Regardless of how much you spend on the call, it is entirely free.

Non-MTN Users – 08031000180

Customers who have an inquiry and do not own an MTN line can still get in touch with a customer care agent by dialing 08031000180. You will still enjoy most of the benefits and services that come with calling with an MTN line, except for the fact that regular call charges now apply.

Unlike calls to the customer care via an MTN line, calls from another network to the customer care service are charged by the host network. So, if you think the call might take a while, make sure you have enough airtime on your phone because you will be directed to another agent and start all over again if your airtime runs out in the middle of the conversation.

The story is the same for international customers who wish to reach out to customer care. You can do so by calling +2348031000180.

WhatsApp Number – 09033000001

If, for whatever reason, you prefer chatting to a voice call, then consider reaching out to MTN via its dedicated WhatsApp Numbers. You will not be able to speak directly with a customer care agent. Still, you will be able to chat with one, getting the same insight and clarity as calling 180.

The only significant downside is, unlike voice calls where interaction and response are instantaneous, you might have to wait for a few minutes to get your issues sorted. And because the telecom has more than one dedicated WhatsApp numbers, the wait time is not as bad as you might think.

Other numbers include 09033000002, 09033000003, 09033000004 and 09033000005. To recap, here are the numbers with which you can reach MTN Nigeria’s Customer care:

  • MTN Users – 180
  • Non-MTN Users – 08031000180
  • International Customers – +2348031000180
  • WhatsApp Numbers – 09033000001, 09033000002, 09033000003, 09033000004, 09033000005

There you have it! All the ways you can reach out to the MTN Nigeria customer care. The solution to your complaints is just a call away.
