Cathy Mohlahlana (born: 7th January) is an award-winning South African broadcast journalist, radio and TV presenter, news reporter and anchor who became popular for being one of the long-standing eTV news reporters.
She launched her career in her undergraduate days as an anchor in her university’s radio station and later became a copywriter for several online channels. Cathy was quite fluent right from childhood and that afforded her the opportunity to work in many South African top radio and TV stations, including Radio 702, eNCA, eNews Prime Time, Kaya FM, and currently at the Newzroom Afrika. Cathy was born on 7th January in Gauteng, one of the provinces in South Africa. Her exact year of birth is unknown to the public but she celebrates her birthday on the 7th January of every year. She had her early childhood days in Gauteng with her parents until the age of six when she moved to Polokwane for her basic school education. There is, yet, no information about his family; parents, and siblings. Thanks to her fluency in speaking, Cathy got actively involved in public speaking and debates throughout her school days. She attended a boarding primary school in Polokwane and Capricorn High School in South Africa. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations and Political Science. While she was in college, she joined Model United Nations (MUN) – an academic reflection of the United Nations wherein students play the roles of representatives from different countries and attempt to solve global issues with the policies and perspectives of their assigned country. Model United Nations which was featured in the world of diplomacy and international relations afforded her the opportunity to be exposed to the world at a young age. Cathy launched her career in her first year at Wits University before she was discovered by Radio 702. She started as an online copywriter and was subsequently promoted to radio anchor. Cathy continued showcasing her talent in the university’s radio station until Radio 702 offered her full-time employment. She was offered the position of reporter and radio anchor for the station’s Eyewitness News. Also, she briefly worked for Kaya FM while she was at Radio 702. Cathy revealed that this time prepared her by helping her grow as a journalist and as an individual. In her words, she said that being given the opportunity to report and cover the kind of stories she has was a huge break, and thus, she learned a lot and subsequently developed her skillset. She resigned from radio 702 and got employed at eNews Channel Africa (eNCA) where she worked till March 2019. Cathy Mohlahlana made big strides at eNCA and got herself established as one of the most professional broadcasters in the country. Even though she is no longer one of the eNCA presenters, Cathy Mohlahlana is still remembered and well-known by many as an eNCA presenter. Rumors however have it that she left the channel following an unmet agreement she had with them. She, alongside Thulasizwe Simelane, left eNCA (DStv Channel 403) on March 29, 2019.

Shortly after, she got a position to work for Newzroom Afrika which airs on DStv channel 405. At Newzroom, Cathy hosts the daily show Newz@Prime that airs between 6:00 pm and 9:00 pm, and Editor’s Choice every Sunday morning. She also works as a broadcast journalist and covers issues of national importance, including governance and service delivery. Cathy said that one of the most beneficial experiences she has had in her life was when she was taken on a fellowship in the United States. It afforded her the privilege to meet all the anchors of CNN and see how it is at such a large-scale operation.
