The popular South African DJ reportedly started his professional career in 1998 when he worked for Tembisa Infor Radio – a community radio station. During his stay with the station, he was in charge of hosting weekend shows alongside working as a producer. DJ Sbu spent up to a year and six months at Tembisa Infor Radio and his time there gave a significant boost to his career as he began to attract the attention of many radio lovers.

In 2000, DJ Sbu landed a position at YFM – a Johannesburg-based radio station where he began to host Beauty and the Beast – a popular weekend show alongside Angela Ludek. A few years later in 2005, DJ Sbu became the host of Y-Lens at the radio station. Although he would later move to Ukhozi Fm, his stay was short-lived there as he went back to YFM.

More so, during his early years at YFM, he went on to produce the film Hang Time, got featured in the popular South African TV series, Generation, and appeared in a commercial for both Toyota Tazz and World Online. However, due to some financial issues with the government over tax returns, the record label was closed in 2020. Prior to its closure, the label was known to have signed the likes of Thembinkosi’s wife – Nhlanhla, and the singer Zahara.

The enterprising DJ Sbu is also notable as the owner of the MoFaya energy drink brand. His new creation gained a lot of attention not long after it was established and investors (including Coca-Cola) began to troop in. He would later sell off 26% of the production to Coca-Cola. The success of MoFaya led to the creation of the Loko Flame vodka brand in 2016.

However, his financial crisis with the bank led to the repossession of his wheels worth more than R1 million.

Sometime in 2021 as the DJ celebrated his birthday on May 8th, he had to post online that he had not been able to buy a car for over 6 years. His post also had a request for fans to gift him wheels on his birthday which were received with mixed reactions from the public

DJ Sbu is among the top celebrities in South Africa who have turned heads because of the homes they live in. The popular DJ who resides in a very elaborate modern home in SA made his den to serve as both a workspace and a place of relaxation.
