Just within a decade from its first release, Marvel Movies have turned out the highest-grossing film franchise of all time. With box office knockouts like The Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, Iron Man, and so on, Marvel has glued millions of keen viewers all over the world to the screens. Making the series more bankable and compelling is its captivating cast makeup comprising regular talents like Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, and Chris Evans, among many others. After the satisfying Avengers: Endgame, Marvel fans who never want any bit of the fun to pass them by are still eagerly on the lookout for upcoming Marvel movies.
The makers of Marvel movies – Marvel Studios started releasing films in 2008. The franchise releases their films in sets called “phases”. Meanwhile, Marvel has already dished out three phases totaling 23 movies. Most popular among these are Iron Man (2008), The Avengers (2012), Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and Avengers: Endgame (2019).
The set of Marvel movies that are on the verge of release at the moment is the “Phase Four” set. Head of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige announced the films making up the latest group alongside their tentative release dates at the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con held in July. The New Mutants (April 3, 2020)
The New Mutants would have earlier released. The initial scheduled release date was August 2, 2019 but the project has experienced delays for a number of reasons. There are also rumors that it will launch directly on Marvel’s streaming service.
Black Widow (May 1, 2020)
Set in Budapest, Black Widow will unfold following the events of Captain America: Civil War. Starring Scarlett Johansson, David Harbour, Rachel Weisz, and Florence Pugh; the movie will be Johansson’s first time of playing the lead in a Marvel. It will also be Marvel’s first female-led superhero film. Wondering what CMU’s regular heroine, Scarlett Johansson will make out of this groundbreaking role? You’ll only have to watch out! May 1, 2020, is the date.
Morbius (July 31, 2020)
Morbius brings to the screens, some vampire traits through lead character, Micheal Morbius, a medical doctor whom Suicide Squad star, Jared Leto will portray. The upcoming superhero marvel also features the likes of Adria Arjona and Matt Smith in starring roles.
The Eternals (November 6, 2020)
Although fans have had a glimpse of extraordinary beings in Marvels like The Guardians of the Galaxy, Thor, and so on; The Eternals will open up the doors to greater superpower experiments. The movie which stars Angelina Jolie, alongside Salma Hayek, Kumail Nanjiani, Richard Madden, and Brian Tyree Henry; revolves around a group of otherworldly humans who are supernatural and somewhat immortal.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (Feb. 12, 2021)
On the release of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, the character of Shang-Chi which CBC’s Kim’s Convenience star, Simu Liu plays will be the first Asian superhero to get a solo film on Marvel. The film is set to also introduce the original version of Mandarin as against the fake one that featured in Iron Man 3.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (May 7, 2021)
With the above movie which is Doctor Strange‘s sequel, MCU will likely introduce her teeming fans to the “multiverse”! Benedict Cumberbatch will reprise his starring role alongside Elizabeth Olsen who will star as Scarlet Witch. Doctor Strange‘s director, Scott Derrickson who is also returning for the movie described it as Marvel’s first scary film ever!
Thor: Love and Thunder (November 5, 2021)
In Thor: Love and Thunder, Natalie Portman will take on the role of Thor which Chris Hemsworth previously portrayed, with the latter now co-starring. What will a female Thor seem like? We’ll just have to wait a while to find out!
Other Future Marvel Movies
In addition to the above movies, Marvel’s phase four group also includes eight big-screen sequels/spin-offs, and television series which the franchise will release on their streaming service, Disney+ to be launched on November 12.
Marvel studios as well has numerous other works under development whose dates of releases are yet to be decided (TBD). However, one already has a tentative scheduled date, while the rest will possibly premiere between February 18, 2022, and July 29, 2022. While some sources claim that these set of movies will form the 5th phase, Marvel Studios is yet to say so. The futuristic works include the following:
