Laycon (Real Name: Massoud Al-Khalifah Agbeleshebioba, born 8th November 1993, Age: 30 years old) is a Nigerian rapper, singer, songwriter, media personality and reality TV show star. He became incredibly famous after he emerged as the winner of the version of the Big Brother Naija reality TV show tagged Lockdown Edition Season 5.

Before his entry into the Big Brother house, Laycon was a rising Nigerian rapper, singer, and songwriter with unsatisfactory popularity, and considered it necessary to go into the Big Brother house in order to promote his career in music. Currently the most followed housemate on Instagram with more than 3 million followers, Laycon is considered the most famous BBN housemate of the season. The BBNaija Winner Was Born and Raised in Lagos State

Born in Agbado, Lagos State on the 8th day of November 1993, Laycon is currently 30 years old. He also grew up in Lagos and had all his education there. Laycon has not revealed any details about his parents or siblings but he mentioned in an interview that he loves and cherishes his mum so much. He explained how his mum has influenced his life in so many positive ways and that she is a major part of his life. Laycon is a native of Bajuwen, Odeda in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria.

He attended Emmanuel’s children Nur/Pri School and proceeded to Lagos State Model College where he obtained his Senior School Certificate. In 2016, he bagged a bachelor of arts degree in philosophy from the University of Lagos. Laycon took a job while he was still an undergraduate in order to support his education and financial needs. He worked as a personal assistant to the CEO and managing director of Latjum Global Nigeria Limited, an oil and gas marketing company in Lagos.

Born in Lagos, grew up in Lagos, acquired all his education in Lagos, did his NYSC in Lagos, worked in only companies that are in Lagos, and still excelling in Lagos, Laycon is best described as a quintessential Lagos boy.

Before BBN, Laycon Was a Musician

Laycon, in his words, said he always knew he would become a musician. He always had a passion for music and started rapping at a very young age in which path he has never drawn back from. He divulged in an interview that he chose to study in UNILAG because he knew right from the onset that the school would be an avenue for him to grow his music career, which it eventually did. Laycon was among the ten artists who were invited to perform at the 2014 Coke Studio UNILAG event. This avenue and many others made him maintain that the school helped him a great deal in learning about music.

He started recording music while he was still an undergraduate but released his first work, Young Black and Gifted in 2016. Then in 2018, he was signed to the Fierce Nation record label and in February 2019, under the record label, he released his first single, Fierce. The song featuring Chinko Ekun and Reminisce was on MTV Base Top 10 chart for 6 months. Since then, Laycon has recorded in his name, 2 EPs, 2 mixtapes, 5 singles, and 1 album. After the BBN show, the City People asked him if he would be coming out with an album soon, his response was that all hands should be crossed because he is already back to the studio and has started recording.

Laycon Worked in Several Companies After He Graduated From UNILAG

Meanwhile, Laycon worked for many organizations before he decided to fully chase his music career. After he completed his NYSC program, he came out looking for a lucrative job but was turned down by some organizations on many occasions. One of the companies did not only turn him down but told him outrightly that he is not qualified for the position he applied for. Laycon did not allow this to discourage him but continued applying for any vacant position he sees, as well as pursuing a second career in music.

Eventually, he was employed at Lagos State Ministry of Information and Strategy. There, he worked as one of the assistants to the director of welfare and human resources. He did not work there for long before he got another job at Bestman Games, Ikoyi where he worked as a sales and business development personnel. Bestman Games is an African games company that is into the production and distribution of customized editions of Hasbro games. It was while working there that he made the decision to pursue a career in music.

Laycon said that it was also there, in the middle of working on different projects, that a link popped up in one of his social media pages, and it turned out to be BBN audition details. Immediately, his instinct told him to go for it as that could be the right opportunity he had been waiting for to boost his music. He clicked on the link and that was how he ended up in the popular reality TV show. Today, Laycon has become a popular name in the Nigerian music scene with much support from celebrities.

BBNaija Star Laycon Is Currently Single

As of the time of writing this piece, Laycon is single and has not revealed anyone to be his date or girlfriend. The only person he has been linked to is his fellow BBNaija housemate, Erica. While they were in the Big Brother house, Laycon professed his love for Erica and wanted to date her but Erica rejected him on the grounds that she is already in love with another housemate, Kiddwaya.

Even though he was very active on social media before the BBN show, Laycon did not have half of the following he currently commands. His large following on Instagram explains how famous he has become. He became the first BBN housemate in the show’s history to reach 1 million followers on Instagram within the first three months of being in the house.
