With his distinct physical attributes, there was no escaping the modelling industry for Jason Momoa who later went into acting. The talented actor is popularly known for his role in HBO’s hit series Game of Thrones where he starred as Kahl Drogo. He is not only an actor but also a writer, director, and producer. Jason made his move into the movie industry when he was featured in drama series Baywatch in the late 90s.
He went on to make appearances in other productions but his major step into the limelight came with his role on Game of Thrones. Apart from his attractive physique and on-screen endeavours, there is so much more to know about Jason Momoa.
He Started Out As A Model
Born Joseph Jason Namakaeha Momoa in Honolulu, Hawaii on August 1, 1979, Jason’s love for the arts may have been influenced by the lives of his parents. His father Joseph Momoa, is a painter and his mother Coni (Lemke), a photographer. However, he did not follow the career path of either his parents, instead, he chose to carve a niche for himself in the show business. He studied Marine Biology while in college in Iowa, but later changed to Wildlife Biology when he moved to Colorado State University.
Jason Momoa started off as a model, after being discovered in 1998, by Takeo Kobayashi, a designer. He didn’t only have a good physique; he knew how to use it. Thus, Momoa won ‘Model of the Year’ in Hawaii in 1999.
Shortly afterwards, he had his first stint ever in acting, featuring in Baywatch Hawaii. The show ended in 2001, and to further pursue his acting career, he moved to Los Angeles where he received yet another important role in two TV movies: Baywatch: Hawaiian Wedding (2003) and Tempted (2003). The following year, he received another series gig, North Shore, which ran for 20 episodes. When the show ended, something even better came for him: Stargate: Atlantis. Playing Ronan Dex on several seasons of the popular Canadian-American adventure and military science fiction series helped make Jason popular in the industry and it apparently marked his first major step to stardom.
Jason Momoa’s Meteoric Rise In the Show Business
Jason Momoa can hardly go anywhere unnoticed with his distinctive height and general physical attributes. No wonder after a thrilling audition where he performed the Haka, he was selected to play the character of Game of Thrones’ Khal Drogo. His character’s violent role in the fantasy drama series obviously shot him to stardom as the series on its own became an instant hit.
A few months after Game of Thrones debuted in 2011, Momoa got the chance to star in Conan the Barbarian, his childhood favourite stories. Years afterwards, other films and TV roles followed: Road to Paloma, The Red Road, Aquaman, to mention a few. Jason also exhibited his writing capabilities with the movie Road to Paloma which he co-wrote with Jonathan Hirschbein and Robert Homer Mollohan.
Momoa’s role in Game of Throne, alongside other key movies and TV shows, helped him secure a $14 million fortune, even though he confessed to being “literally broke” after his time on the series ended. Luckily, he was cast as the lead character in Aquaman and the movie went on to draw $1 billion, making it one lucrative thirst trap.
Meet Jason Momoa’s Wife Of Over A Decade
Jason Momoa may be fierce-looking and controversially attractive on-screen, but away from the screen, he is a traditional family man who upholds the value of marriage and togetherness. He is married to actress Lisa Bonet. The love life of the two has for long been inspiring tons of fans looking forward to having a perfect family like theirs. From their picture-perfect first meeting at a jazz club to their blended family, and ultra-private long-awaited wedding ceremony, the love story of the pair remains touching.
Best known for playing Denise Huxtable on the NBC sitcom The Cosby Show, which originally aired from 1984 to 1992, Lisa joined the show business as a child and she has since been active, receiving important roles in highly rated films like Enemy of the State (1998), High Fidelity (2000) and Road to Paloma (2013), and television series, including A Different World, Drunk History, and The Red Road.
Bonet has also received notable awards for her skilful roles in the industry. Much of her award nominations came from her role in The Cosby Show but she won the Young Artist Award for Best Young Female Superstar in Motion Pictures category following her role in the 1987 neo-noir psychological horror film Angel Heart.
Age Was No Barrier To Their Love
What now appears to be one of Hollywood’s most perfect union, was literally kept away from the public for almost a decade. Jason Momoa born August 1, 1979, is much younger than Lisa who was born on November 16, 1967, However, the over ten years gap between them was never an issue in their union. More than being in love, Momoa cherishes his wife and celebrates her being. He appreciates her strength and persona rather than be intimidated and jealous of her achievements.
The two reportedly met in 2005, through some mutual friends. But, before meeting face to face, The Game of Thrones star confessed that he grew up admiring Lisa Bonet as Denise Huxtable on the NBC sitcom The Cosby Show and that she was literally his childhood crush. While Momoa confessed to being bewitched by the beauty of Lisa Bonet at first sight, things were different for Bonet. She confessed that it wasn’t love-at-first-sight for her. Having been previously married to American rock singer Lenny Kravitz with whom she had her daughter Zoë Isabella Kravitz, Bonet chose to go gradually with her newly found love until she fell for him eventually.
Things metamorphosed quickly before Bonet and Momoa knew it. They exchanged marital vows in 2007 but failed to make it official until 2017. Years later, nothing has changed, Momoa and Bonet are still head over heels in love with each other.
Jason Momoa Has Three Children
Momoa is not only a perfect picture of an ideal husband but also a loving father who values the times he spends with his family over anything else. The couple has two children together; Lola Iolani Momoa – their daughter born in 2007 and Nakoa Momoa – their son born in 2008.

Having pre-determined to be more than just a father to his children, Jason follows through every stage of his children’s lives as they grow. He is not only close to his two biological children, but to Zoe as well.
One Of His Daughters Is In ShowBiz
While Lola and Nakoa are yet to decide what career path to follow, Momoa’s stepdaughter Zoe appears to have already chosen one for herself. She decided to join the movie industry where her mother and stepfather have built their robust career. Born December 1, 1988, Zoe is also a singer and model. She landed her first acting role in 2007, while in high school, playing a babysitter in the romantic comedy No Reservations. She has since appeared in over a dozen more films, including X-Men: First Class (2011), Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016) and Viena and the Fantomes (2020).
Zoe’s modelling career apparently began in 2009 when she was named the face of Vera Wang’s Princess fragrance. In 2013, she released a jewellery line in collaboration with the Swarovski crystal company. For her unique sense of fashion, she was in 2018, ranked one of the best-dressed women by fashion website Net-a-Porter.
As for her musical career, Zoe reportedly began at the age of 16, fronting a New York/Philadelphia-based band Elevator Fight, before she started the band Lolawolf. Currently making her way in various departments of the show business, Zoe appears to be more determined to achieve greater success than her parents.
