Public transportation can be a life saver and even though we do pay for the services rendered, there have surely been a time or two when you have just been grateful for the provision of a ride to wherever you are hurrying off to.
In this regard, Ghana is looking to honor her taxi drivers with a concert.
The concert is in celebration of public transport and taxi drivers and will be held in Accra, Ghana on 30 July.
Tagged ‘The Taxi and Trotro Concert’, the event is scheduled to occur at the end of a festival holding at the Ghana’s Trade Fair Centre located at Labadi.
Events Republic, an events planning and artist management firm says that the concert aims at, “celebrating the hard working men and women in the Urban Transport System” because “workers in the transport system have not been celebrated well although they have sacrificed their daily lives to transport us safely to and from our various destination.”
The events planning firm went further to explain the need for the focus of the concert in an official statement where they stated that;
“A lot of people are of the misconception that Taxi and Trotro drivers are usually uneducated and unwise but the irony is that, educated people sit in these cars, willingly hand over their lives to these uneducated drivers till they reach their final destination, they actually use these means of transport until they can afford their own cars.
It is thus very imperative to appreciate their work and also use this opportunity to give them some education and a one day vacation from their work place. It is also a good time for corporate Ghana to come together to remember all the fun moments they spent in these means of transport.”
Expected at the concert are artists like; Yaw Stone, Wutah Kobby, KK Fosu, Dada Hafco, Nana Quame, Rudebwoy Ranking, Epixode, and Quame Zaggy.
The team leader of Events Republic, Mel Kwesi Davis, said that the event will be a gathering of station masters, bookmen, drivers, drivers mate, passengers, car owners, bachelors, and bachelorettes.
