Presidential Removal Bill– Representative Earl Blumenauer has filed a bill in the House of Representatives to encourage the removal of President Donald Trump without impeaching him.
Impeaching Trump will make him the first as no US President has ever been formally impeached.
The American constitution under Section 4 of the 25th Amendment gives room for the congress to set up a body to evaluate if the president is fit to rule the most powerful nation in the world.
The Democratic representative released a statement stressing the need to re-evaluate Trump’s “erratic” personality as it relates to leadership.
‘When there are questions about the president’s ability to fulfill his or her constitutional responsibilities, it is in the country’s best interest to have a mechanism in place that works effectively,”
Similar to the sentiments of Hillary Clinton and former first lady, Michelle Obama, he bothers that Trump could not be trusted with nuclear codes or classified information by intelligence agencies.
The Presidential removal bill permits that a panel consisting of the Vice President, Ex-Presidents and other top cabinet members to determine if Trump should remain president.
In the case where they find him disqualified, the VP (in this case Mike Pence) takes over power. If the president refuses to step down, the house is expected to produce two-thirds of votes from both the House and Senate to force the resignation of the president.
Earl Blumenauer alongside other democrats are pushing for the bill to be amended. They argue that the strategy may fail since the President could easily fire any cabinet member who poses as a threat to his administration.
“Because the cabinet can be fired by the president, there is a natural bias that would make them reluctant to acknowledge the president’s inability to serve.”
“It’s time to revisit and strengthen the Amendment and make sure there is a reliable mechanism in place if the president becomes unable to discharge the powers and duties of office,”
In March a similar proposition was presented by 2 students on how Trump can be unseated without being impeached.
Samuel Breidbart and Vinay Nayak are both first year students at Yale Law school.
They may not all publicly admit it but some Republicans are as edgy as Democrats over having Donald Trump’s personality in the oval office.
It was rumored after his November victory that an impeachment of the radical billionaire president would probably follow.
Till this moment most Americans believe Trump will not successfully complete his 4-year tenure.
Trump has faced challenges over every executive step he has taken since his January inauguration.
From travel ban to anti-abortion/LGBT stand to the failed attempt to overturn Obamacare, Trump has battled great oppositions.
With latest face-offs with Russia, Syria, Iran and North Korea, it is clear that America is twice as bothered as the rest of the world.
Trump’s radical behavior and inaccurate statements reportedly prompted as open letter from 35 mental health professionals, saying Trump showed signs of “grave emotional instability”.
With Trump’s series of “un-presidential” behaviors, the presidential removal bill is likely to be amended. However removing Trump may still not be easy since Republicans dominate the Congress.
