Amy Schumer is a comedian and actress who has caught and remained in the eyes of the public since the inception of her career. While it is in the entertainment circle that she has made a name for herself and remained popular, she is not too distant from the political world. Although she has mostly remained on the good lane of the law, Schumer recently got herself arrested while protesting the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh as a Supreme Court judge. For her actions, she has gotten a few supports and criticisms. Here is how everything went down.
Why Was Amy Schumer Arrested?
In any democratic state, investigations are often carried out on anyone who is nominated or has declared their intentions to occupy any position. For Judge Brett Kavanaugh, an American lawyer and jurist who holds the position of Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, his good records turned black after he was nominated by President Donald Trump to fill the position formerly occupied by Anthony Kennedy in the Supreme Court. While he was being investigated, he was accused by three women who claimed he sexually assaulted them during their high school and college days.
The first lady is Christine Blasey Ford, a Psychology professor at Palo Alto University. In her statement, she told the Senate Judiciary Committee that the incident occurred when she was a high school student at Maryland. She said she had wanted to let the incident go but after she heard of his intended election, she felt it was unwise to put him in the position. She also claimed that she earlier reported the incident to federal agents and visited a psychologist to help with the negative effect of the incident on her emotions.
Deborah Ramirez is the second lady who claimed that she was also sexually assaulted by the Judge. Though she didn’t make an open declaration orally, she put up her claims on the pages of The New Yorker newspaper. In her confession, she stated that the now Judge thrust his penis against her face after they had both been drinking and partying during their days in college. After her claims were released, the judge denied the allegations and publicly said that the event never happened.
Then came another lady named Julie Swetnick. In her statement, she described similar methods used against the other two ladies. Like the former, Brett also denied the allegations.
The question is how did Amy Schumer get involved? Well, there have been different claims by so many women who were allegedly molested and even raped. In this case, Dr. Christine Blasey Ford claimed that Judge Brett Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her while she was in high school. She made these remarks in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee after which a lot of celebrities praised her for her boldness and ability to stand and speak up for women. Amongst these celebrities are Amy Schumer and Emily Ratajkowski.
Apart from the protests, Amy Schumer and Emily Ratajkowski have proved their claims of being feminist on several occasions. So, it was no surprise that they took it to another level as they stood amongst the crowd of protesters in front of the Supreme Court Capitol Hill, Washington Dc, on Thursday, October 4, 2018. Sources say that Amy Schumer urged the crowd not to let their guards down and further emphasized that if they give up, it may imply that women are of lesser value to the world.
While the protest was ongoing, the authorities gave the crowd the options of vacating the premises or get arrested. When it came to Amy’s turn, she insisted that she would rather get arrested than leave the premises. So, she was arrested alongside Emily Ratajkowski and 291 others and were all charged with crowding, obstructing, or incommoding.
