Before he came to be known as Clayne Crawford, the actor was born as Joseph ‘Joey’ Crawford in Clay, Alabama, the United States of America on April 20, 1978, to Braine and Lennie Crawford. Early in his life, Clayne Crawford was known for his hard work and participation in both school and home activities. In school, sports was as important to him as his academics. He also joined the Speech and Debate clubs as well as the football and wrestling teams. At the age of 13, Crawford joined other members of his family in doing construction jobs. This continued during his teenage years and even while he took to acting, he still took part in the construction business.
While Clayne Crawford was at Hewitt-Trussville High school, he dreamt of making a career out of his passion for sports because he enjoyed and participated actively in most games. But after high school, his focus was redirected and he chose to pursue a career in acting instead. Crawford moved to Los Angeles as was advised in school and attended the University of California, Los Angeles.
