Tyra Banks Bio
The former model turned actress, businesswoman, and t.v. personality was born on the 4th of December, 1973 in Inglewood, California. She is the second of two children to her mother, Carolyn London, and father, Donald Banks. Her older brother is named Devin.
Banks attended John Burroughs Middle School and Immaculate Heart High School in Los Angeles. Later on in life, she enrolled at Harvard Business School, completing a course for CEOs to help her build her cosmetics brand.
At around the age of 15, she began her modeling career. She was signed by L.A. Models after being rejected by four other agencies for either being “too ethnic” or for not wanting another black woman in their agency. When she was 16, she left L.A. Models and signed with Elite Model Management, the largest modeling agency in the world. After graduating high school, she enrolled at Loyola Marymount University in LA but dropped out to model in Europe.
Tyra Banks walked in fashion shows in Paris and appeared in editorials for numerous Fashion and Glamour magazines around the world. Some of the brands she represented include Dolce & Gabbana, Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren, Victoria’s Secret, and Nike, among others.
In 1993, she signed a contract with CoverGirl cosmetics and was one of a few black models to attain Supermodel status alongside the likes of Naomi Campbell. She further became the first African American woman to grace the cover of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue and the first black woman to be featured in the Victoria Secret lingerie catalog.
For her business endeavors, Banks created, produced, and hosted her own daytime talk show, The Tyra Banks Show, which lasted five years on screen. She further hosted the model search reality t.v. program America’s Next Top Model, and the talent hunt show, America’s Got Talent.
Erik Asla Bio
Not much is known about Erik Asla’s life in Norway, but he was born on the 21st of May, 1964. The photographer moved to the United States from Paris in search of greener pastures. Before long, his talent earned him a spot as a photo assistant to highly acclaimed fashion photographer Herb Ritts. While working under Ritts, Asla gained a wealth of knowledge and experience that proved advantageous in his career. He has since made a name for himself in fashion photography and has worked for various magazines like Harper’s Bazaar, Allure, and Vanity Fair, to name a few.
Erik Asla and Tyra Banks first worked professionally on the set of America’s Next Top Model. They have also worked together in the Norwegian version, Norway’s Next Top Model.
Erik Asla And Tyra Banks Split: Everything You Need To Know
As mentioned above, the couple met while working on Norway’s Next Top Model in 2013, and immediately hit it off. Rumors about the couples’ romantic involvement began to swirl when they were spotted having lunch together. They were later caught on camera kissing.
After a couple of years of dating, Erik Asla and Tyra Banks decided to start a family but were unable to do so due to Tyra’s well-documented fertility issues. They tried several rounds of in-vitro fertilization (IVF) but were unsuccessful, before deciding to seek the help of a surrogate. In January 2016, the couple welcomed a baby boy they named York Banks Asla via a gestational surrogate mother.
The couple appeared to be very happy to have welcomed a child, however, the joy was short lived as they began to experience some difficulty in their relationship. Many speculated that it was as a result of the strain put on their relationship by the pressures of having a new baby. Regardless, many thought the two would eventually kiss and makeup until they dropped the bombshell news of a split.
Erik Asler and Tyra Banks have since ended things as the former moved out of the house they share together and now lives with his three daughters from previous relationships. The two have, however, remained friends and still co-parent their son.
