Biography of GoldLink

GoldLink was born D’Anthony Carlos on May 17, 1993, in Washington D.C, in the United States. He is an African-American. When he was growing up – at about 2 years old, fire razed their home to the ground and the family was forced to live in various places including motels and people’s houses.

GoldLink, like many other celebrities, had a high school education before focussing on building a viable career in the music industry. He was educated at the Hayfield Secondary School, Alexandria, Virginia.

GoldLink nurtured the ambition of being a successful rapper since his childhood. It didn’t end as a wishful thought as he worked hard to see himself where he is today. He started off with the name Gold Link James and also shared his tracks online. As unpopular as he was then, he managed to garner followers to himself through the online recordings he uploaded. However, he took a short break from the music scene only to resurface in 2013 with his reinvented moniker GoldLink.

His return into the music scene garnered him more fans, his uploads recorded more followers from what it used to be, producers like Kaytranada, as well as the Danish crew Galimatias & Joppe, sought after him and collaborated with him.

He went on to drop his first mixtape titled The God Complex in 2014. The piece which was widely received, paved way for him on what was to come. The following year, he released his second mixtape titled And After That, We Didn’t Talk which was supported by two singles he dubbed Dance On Me and Spectrum.

Having garnered many followers, he dropped his first studio album – At What Cost on March 24, 2017. The much-anticipated album got positive reviews and was spotted at number 128 on the US Billboard 200 chart. A single titled Crew in the album did not just get to debut at number 45 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, but it also gave GoldLink his first Grammy nomination.

Since the release of his album, he has featured in Christina Aguilera’s eight studio album titled Liberation, in June of 2018. We hope to see him collaborate with other megastars in no distant time.

Awards and Nominations

GoldLink has not really clinched any but he has been nominated for four different awards. His first nomination was in 2018 by the Grammy Awards in the category of the Best Rap/Song Performance based on his lead single Crew, from his debut album At What Cost. The same year, iHeartRodio Music Awards nominated him for the Best New Hip-Hop Artist, BET Awards also nominated him for the Best New Artist. Like I Do, a single he featured in Christina Aguilera’s album also got nominated for the Best Rap/Song Performance in 2019. The 61st Annual Grammy Awards.

His Family

GoldLink’s parents are not known to the public but one thing that is clear about them is that his mother was a secretary in a Law firm while his father worked at a park and recreation center. It is worthy of note to state that his parents separated when GoldLink was in his tender age.

The rapper, after the separation of his folks, stayed with his mother along with his brother who is almost 10 years older than he is. Much details about his brother are not available as of now. The way the father had left the family led to a hostile relationship between GoldLink and the dad for years until they mended their fences when he turned 18, after his high school graduation.
