Hilary Duff was born Hilary Erhard Duff, one of two children to Susan Colleen (nee Cobb) and Robert Erhard Duff, on September 28, 1987, in Houston, Texas. Her mother was a homemaker while her father was a businessman who owned a chain of convenience stores in San Antonio and Houston through a partnership.

As a child, Duff and her older sister Haylie were enrolled in acting, ballet, and singing classes where they excelled and earned local recognition for their talent. They were notably selected to play in a local theater production of ‘The Nutcracker’ where their performance earned further plaudits and encouraged them to pursue a career in the entertainment industry.

In 1993, the Duff girls; Hilary, her sister, and mother, moved to California as they began to audition for a number of roles but were only able to land television commercials. During this time, the girls were homeschooled by their mother in order for them to have flexible times to audition. By 1997, Duff landed her first role, a minor uncredited one in ‘True Women’ (1997) followed by another uncredited one in the comedy-drama ‘Playing by Heart’ (1998) before she caught her big break in the fantasy film comedy ‘Casper Meets Wendy'(1998) where she played Wendy.

The following year, Hilary Duff appeared in ‘The Soul Collector’ (1999) where she put in a display that earned her a Young Artist Award for Best Performance. In 2000, she landed the lead role in Disney’s ‘Lizzie McGuire’ which became an instant hit and catapulted her to unprecedented heights. The success of the show led to music career as Duff had already recorded the soundtrack of the show, displaying her musical prowess for producers to see. She went on to record a Christmas-themed album titled ‘Santa Claus Lane’ released in October 2002 and the rest became history.

In 2010, Hilary Duff married the now-retired Canadian professional ice hockey player Mike Comrie following a 3-year relationship that began sometime in the summer of 2007. The couple first announced their engagement in February of that year before exchanging vows on August 14, 2010, in Santa Barbara, California. Together, Mike and Hillary have a son named Luca Cruz Comrie who was born on March 20, 2012.

After four years of marriage, Duff separated from her husband before going on to file for divorce from Comrie in 2015, citing irreconcilable differences. It is not clear what exactly transpired between the couple that led to their separation and divorce but Duff has maintained that the both of them have remained good friends until this day and she still has a soft spot for him.

Following years of speculation of possible infidelity on Comrie’s side, Duff, when asked in a 2016 interview with US Weekly about getting married again, said she does not feel the need to but will, however, consider it if the person she is dating feels strongly about it. She then went on to say that marriage is sacred and not for everyone.

Where Is She Now?

Hilary Duff continues to work in the entertainment industry, most recently playing the lead role in the upcoming movie, ‘The Haunting of Sharon Tate’ (2018) which is about the killing of actress Sharon Tate by members of the Manson family. She also continues to work as a fashion designer, this time on an eyewear collection in collaboration with GlassesUSA.com called “The Muse x Hilary Duff Collection”.

In June 2018, Duff announced she was expecting her second child, this time with her singer / professional bowling boyfriend Matthew Koma whom she had been in a relationship with for over a year.
