Philip Dorsett’s Early Life and Career Beginnings
Philip Dorsett is a native of Miami and was born on the 5th of January 1993. He had his high school education at the St Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale, Miami where he was a multi-sport athlete; he not only played football but also lettered in sprint as well as long jump. Dorsett recorded some incredible achievements while in high school; he won the 5A Florida State Championship in 2010 and caught a total of 65 passes for 3413 yards, scoring 21 touchdowns in the process.
His winning mentality also extended to other sports asides football. In his senior year in 2011, he came 2nd and 3rd respectively in the 100m and 200m race in a district competition organized by the Florida High School Athletics Association. Due to his amazing performances, Dorsett received offers of football scholarships from several colleges but picked the University of Miami.
At the University of Miami, Phillip Dorsett made solid offensive contributions to the school’s football team and caught a total of 121 passes for 2132 yards, scoring 17 touchdowns in the process. His NFL Career Achievements
Phillip Dorsett was a first-round pick (26th overall pick) in the 2015 NFL draft and signed a four-year contract with the Indianapolis Colts. His selection was not viewed favourably by fans and sports analysts alike as they felt that the team already had enough options in the wide receiver position and should instead focus on strengthening the defensive line. Dorsett spent two seasons with the Indianapolis Colts before being traded to the New England Patriots in September 2017. His two seasons with The Colts were disappointing as he failed to live up to expectations; he only caught 51 passes for 753 yards, scoring three touchdowns in the process.
Dorsett joined the New England Patriots in September 2017. He had an average first season with The Patriots. Despite the fact that he appeared in all 15 games, he only caught 12 out of 18 targeted passes for a dismal 194 yards and recorded no touchdowns. One of the reasons for his below-par performance was the fact that he joined the team shortly before the start of the 2017 season and as such did not have adequate time to train with and familiarise himself with other offensive players such as star quarterback Tom Brady.
However, Dorsett started the 2018 season on a good note. In the season opener against Houston Rockets on September 9th, he caught 7 passes for 66 yards and scored a touchdown.
